There’s something special about an airshow. The combination of raw power, precision flying, engineering excellence, and the passion of the aviation community creates an atmosphere unlike any other event. Whether it’s the thunder of a fast jet, the elegance of a vintage warbird, or the sheer scale of a heavy transport aircraft, airshows bring together aircraft and people who share a genuine love of aviation.
For me, airshows are more than just photography opportunities—they’re the perfect intersection of lifelong interests in aviation, engineering, and military capability. My connection to aircraft extends well beyond the camera. During my military career, I worked in fleet-level electronic warfare roles, supporting helicopter capability and gaining a broad understanding of how aviation platforms are employed, sustained, and operated across an entire fleet. Earlier in my career, I qualified as an avionics technician and held maintenance authorisations on CH-47 Chinook and Kiowa helicopters, providing hands-on experience with the systems, technology, and engineering that keep these aircraft flying.
That background gives me a different perspective when photographing aircraft. While many people see the aircraft itself, I often find myself appreciating the engineering decisions, maintenance effort, mission systems, and operational roles that sit behind the display. Whether I’m photographing a modern fighter, a heavy airlifter, a maritime patrol aircraft, or a helicopter, I enjoy capturing not only the aircraft’s appearance but also the story of the capability it represents.
Over the years, I have photographed major aviation events across Australia, worked with commercial partners, and built a growing collection of aviation imagery covering military, civilian, and special mission aircraft. Every airshow offers a new opportunity to learn something, meet passionate people, and capture unique moments that showcase the incredible diversity of aviation.
